ALBUM REVIEW
Tuesday's A Day To Remember
by Sidewalk
Reviewed by Chantal

This isn't the first time we've reviewed singer/songwriter Coen van der Horst's work. There were the EP's 'Have Heart, Will Travel' and 'They Say The World Is Turning', which each contained a couple of songs. This time though, enough songs have been written and produced to create a full album.

Despite the changes in the band, the sound remains very loyal and almost tailored for Coen. On this CD, he received help from drummer Marvin Zeelig, guitarist Evert Zeevalkink and bass player Sander Kalmeijer

Once again, trending topic in the four new tracks ('Save Me', 'With All This Love To Give', 'Let Go' and 'Princess') is love. These four songs are released as an EP ('If Morning Ever Comes'), as well as simultaneous with the album, thus creating the final piece of the puzzle of Sidewalk.

Sure, the more up-tempo songs, such as 'Magical', 'This Better Be For Real', 'Suzannah' and 'October Skies', will immediately captivate listeners, but, like in love, everything can't be cheerful and upbeat. It's the musical counterparts that make the more intense songs jump out.

Of the new songs, we start out with the new and very short 'Save Me', where we, once again, are tempted by Coen's warm voice, who's singing a plea. The simple trinity of guitar, bass and drums and Coen's voice make 'With All This Love To Give' a dreamy song. The added touch of banjo makes the song complete. The volume is then turned up in 'Let Go': more powerful hits on the drum skins and the swelling guitar riffs create an A Balladeer kind of track. On the super short 'Princess', Coen, like the storytellers of old, sings of the beauty of one's lover.

All twelve tracks are completely free for download through the band's Bandcamp page. But beware that if you do, you'll deprive yourself of winning great prizes. As a bonus (and to stimulate sales of physical CD's), the band hid a puzzle in the CD-booklet. Whoever solves it, which won't be easy, can win several great goodies.
